2 Israelis, 4 Palestinians killed in gunfight sparked by settler raid of Palestinian town

Two Israelis and four Palestinians were killed in a gunfight in the northern West Bank village of Tell after a group of settlers illegally entered the area. The incident began when dozens of settlers, some armed, entered Tell, leading to clashes with local Palestinians. During the confrontation, a Palestinian seized a weapon from an armed Israeli settler, Benayahu Mellet, and opened fire, killing Mellet and IDF Maj. Yuval Ezra. The Palestinian assailant and three other Palestinians were killed in the ensuing crossfire. Following the incident, the IDF dispatched additional troops to the West Bank, imposed closures on Tell and Nablus, and canceled weekend furloughs. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced new measures, including demolishing the assailant's home, expanding settlement legalization, and establishing new settlements. Shin Bet head David Zini stated, "This morning’s attack is severe and painful, and tragically claimed a heavy toll in lives." Subsequently, hundreds of settlers raided several Palestinian villages, torching buildings and clashing with residents, wounding seven Palestinians.
