AG said to order police probe of conflicting claims in state comptroller vote scandal

The probe stems from allegations by MK Sharren Haskel, who testified that lawmakers were instructed to film their votes for Prime Minister Netanyahu’s preferred candidate, Michael Rabello, despite the requirement for a secret ballot. This contradicts affidavits from Likud officials who denied such instructions. The High Court previously froze Rabello’s appointment due to concerns about the process. The police investigation aims to determine the veracity of these claims and explore potential criminal charges for perjury. The Movement for Quality Government in Israel welcomed the order, stating, "If it becomes clear that the High Court was misled by a false affidavit, this is not just a violation of the legal process, but a serious violation of the rule of law and the public trust."
