Aid worker who helped refugees in Greece murdered by migrant, body hidden in suitcase

Greek police have arrested a 26-year-old Afghan man in connection with the murder of Elizabeth Jane Ross, a 38-year-old Scottish aid worker. Ross's body was discovered on July 18 in a suitcase in an abandoned building in Athens. The suspect was apprehended after security cameras allegedly captured him using Ross’s bank cards at ATMs. He reportedly confessed to the killing and is accused of sending messages from Ross's phone to her relatives, including one stating, “I need time alone,” to conceal her death. Ross, who frequently traveled to Greece to assist refugees, particularly from Afghanistan and Iran, was described by a friend as an “angel” who “only wanted to help people everywhere she went.” The motive and cause of death remain under investigation, with authorities awaiting toxicology results.
