Al Jazeera has reportedly fired 24 journalists and staff members in Gaza amid a US lawsuit alleging the Qatari broadcaster supports Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). Filed in February 2025 by Shurat HaDin with StandWithUs, the lawsuit claims some Al Jazeera staff have ties to these terrorist organizations. This development follows a review by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), which removed 20 names from its database of journalists killed in the Israel-Hamas war after confirming their affiliation with Hamas or PIJ. CPJ CEO Jodie Ginsberg stated, "CPJ has always been clear that we do not include anyone in our data sets if there is evidence that they were engaging in combat or inciting imminent violence." CPJ is conducting a full review of its lists and advocates for international correspondents to access Gaza.
