Antisemitic incidents in Spain rise 14.5% as watchdog warns hatred is being normalized
Antisemitic incidents in Spain increased in 2025, according to a report by Jewish groups that cited vandalism, harassment and other attacks while warning against the normalization of hate.
Antisemitic incidents in Spain increased by 14.5% in 2025, with 221 incidents recorded by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE) and the Movement Against Intolerance (MCI), up from 193 in 2024. This rise is attributed to “campaigns against Israel” following the October 7, 2023 attacks and the conflict in Gaza, leading to a normalization of hatred. The Spanish Interior Ministry also reported a significant increase in hate crimes targeting Jews, from 37 in 2024 to 69 in 2025.
“Since October 7, 2023, Spanish Jews have had to go to our gathering places with special security measures,”
said FCJE president David Obadía, highlighting the daily reality of insults and discrimination. While security forces are active, the FCJE calls for more rigorous action from the government, politicians, and media to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
