Attempted murder hate crimes charges for man accused of stabbing visibly Jewish, Asian men in NYC

Raul Morales, 51, has been charged with attempted murder as a hate crime and other offenses after allegedly stabbing a visibly Jewish man and an Asian man on Manhattan's Upper West Side on Thursday while yelling "Allahu akbar." The New York City Police Department confirmed the charges, which also include attempted murder, assault as a hate crime, two counts of assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Jewish groups have criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, linking the incident to his recent video calling the Israeli prime minister a "war criminal." Mamdani stated he is "thankful that he is being held accountable and hope he will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," adding that his administration "will always stand against bigotry and do everything in our power to root out antisemitism, racism and hateful acts of all kinds."
