Australia investigates near-miss collision of two planes on tarmac at Sydney airport

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating a near-miss incident at Sydney Airport on Sunday involving a Jetstar A320 and a Qatar Airways Boeing 777. The Jetstar plane was taxiing for takeoff when its crew observed the Qatar Airways aircraft, which was being towed, in close proximity on a crossing taxiway. Both aircraft stopped abruptly, resulting in an injury to a Jetstar cabin crew member and damage to the connection between the Qatar Airways plane and its tug. A Jetstar spokesperson stated, "Our aircraft was following instructions by Air Traffic Control when the pilots were forced to brake firmly after another aircraft came in close proximity." This incident occurred a day after Sydney Airport experienced delays due to air traffic controller roster issues.
