Behind the front lines, Sar-El volunteers help keep the IDF running

Sar-El, an Israeli volunteer organization, is experiencing an urgent demand for its services, with CEO Keren Dahan stating, "The IDF needs us more than ever." Volunteers perform essential non-combat tasks on six army bases, including preparing equipment, maintaining medical supplies, and assembling 35,000 military meals daily. Founded in 1983, Sar-El has seen nearly 292,000 volunteers from 60 countries, with many returning multiple times. The organization is also expanding its community-building efforts through initiatives like the Academy by Sar-El lecture series, which recently featured Moshe Yeshayahu recounting his family's journey from Ethiopia to Israel. Despite high demand, volunteer numbers have declined due to reduced international air service and travel concerns.
