Berlin Jew 'threatened', shown Nazi salute en route to prayer

A Jewish community leader in Berlin reported that a man was detained earlier this week after allegedly performing a Hitler salute and making death threats toward a Jewish person en route to synagogue. Shlomo Afanasev, a board member of Kahal Adat Jisroel, posted a video on X showing the incident, where the man also allegedly hurled antisemitic abuse alongside a companion. Afanasev stated, "Antisemitism is not a memory of the past—it is a reality of the present." This incident occurs amidst a rise in antisemitic incidents in Germany, with 8,725 documented in 2025, a slight increase from the previous year, with "Israel-related antisemitism" accounting for 68% of these cases, according to the Federal Association of Departments for Research and Information on Antisemitism (RIAS).
