Bernie Sanders urges Democratic Party to ban AIPAC and super PACs from primaries, pass amendment

In a letter to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and DNC Chair Ken Martin, Sanders highlighted that super PACs have spent over $517 million in the 2026 midterm election cycle. He specifically criticized organizations like AIPAC, stating, "It is insane that the Democrats allow super PACs like AIPAC to spend millions in their primaries — only for those same special interests to help elect Republicans in the general election." Sanders also called for a constitutional amendment to repeal the 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court ruling, which enabled unlimited independent political spending. He emphasized that the Democratic Party could unilaterally ban super PACs from its primaries without legislative action.
