A new blood test for lung cancer, developed by Dr. Abd Agbaria of Bnai Zion Medical Center and Tel Aviv University researchers, demonstrated nearly 93% accuracy in a clinical study of 103 participants. Published in npj Precision Oncology, the test identifies specific methylation patterns in cell-free DNA using a chip and fluorescence analysis, costing approximately $60. It achieved 93.1% sensitivity and 90.3% specificity in patients with stage 2-4 cancer and could differentiate between adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Dr. Agbaria stated, "The earlier we are able to detect the disease, the greater the possibilities for treatment and cure." Broader testing is underway in Israel and Europe before widespread implementation.
