Border Police rescue illegally held gazelle from basement in private home near Jenin

The Israel Border Police rescued an illegally held gazelle from a private home's basement near Jenin, the police announced Wednesday. Overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, officers and Israel Nature and Parks Authority (INPA) supervisors located the gazelle. One suspect was detained, with an indictment expected for illegal hunting and holding a wild animal. The gazelle is undergoing veterinary checks and will be transferred to a safari in Ramat Gan.

This follows a similar operation last week where two lion cubs, Ben Tzur and Uri, illegally trafficked into Israel and rescued in 2025, were transferred to a big-cat sanctuary in South Africa after a 30-hour journey.
