California Gov. Newsom says West Bank annexation, Netanyahu could lead Israel into apertheid state

California Governor Gavin Newsom stated in an interview with Axios on Tuesday that while he "long supported the state of Israel," he believes Israel could become an apartheid state if it annexes the West Bank under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's leadership. Newsom clarified that he does not currently consider Israel an apartheid state, but expressed concern over Netanyahu's actions and his opposition to a two-state solution, stating, "My red flag is Bibi Netanyahu, period, full stop." He also voiced worries about the situation in southern Lebanon and Gaza. Newsom reiterated earlier criticisms of Netanyahu, emphasizing that his objections are directed at the current Israeli government, not the state of Israel itself, adding, "I revere the State of Israel. I'm proud to support the State of Israel."
