California man faces trial over alleged threats to shoot up Jewish community center

A California court has ordered Paul Dean Andrews, 43, to stand trial for allegedly threatening a shooting at a Jewish community center in Redondo Beach. Andrews, who pleaded not guilty, faces over nine years in prison if convicted. Prosecutors state that in August, Andrews made antisemitic calls to the center, threatening, "I will come and open fire at the place." This follows a previous 2023 charge for assault with a semi-automatic weapon, where he was mandated to complete an anti-bias program. However, instead of completing the program, Andrews allegedly targeted Jewish institutions, leaving messages like, "All Jews should be hanged from trees." Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman commented, "The defendant was given an opportunity to confront his prejudices, but chose not to do so."
