Canadian politicians call to immediately list Kataib Hezbollah as a terrorist entity

Canadian opposition leader Pierre Poilievre has urged the federal government to immediately designate Kataib Hezbollah as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code. This call follows a US legal filing detailing alleged actions by Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi, a senior commander of Kataib Hezbollah, who reportedly planned and claimed responsibility for nearly 20 terrorist attacks, including two in Canada: a shooting at the US consulate in Toronto and an attack on a Canadian synagogue. Poilievre stated, "Canada should not wait for another synagogue or another foreign consulate to be attacked before shutting down the terrorist organization allegedly directing these attacks." The Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) welcomed Poilievre's letter, noting they had previously urged the government to take this step amid escalating threats against Jewish institutions in Canada.
