CDC expands largest known cyclosporiasis outbreak to 15 states – report

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has expanded the largest known cyclosporiasis outbreak to 15 states, according to a Washington Post report. The outbreak, linked to iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell restaurants and sourced from Taylor Farms in central Mexico, has led to a record number of cyclosporiasis cases this year. Missouri is among the newly added states, reporting 1,095 cases, with patients indicating Taco Bell consumption prior to illness. Michigan, the hardest-hit state, has reported 11,508 cases and two deaths, though these individuals had significant underlying health conditions. As of July 28, the CDC has recorded 6,707 laboratory-confirmed cases nationwide and over 11,500 suspected cases.
