A major malfunction in the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) communications systems is causing widespread disruptions to aircraft traffic on the East Coast.Flights at airports in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia were delayed or grounded, and thousands of flights across the US were affected. The outage was reportedly caused by a damaged fiber-optic cable in New Jersey.
