The High Court of Justice ruled on Wednesday that State Attorney Amit Aisman, Israel's chief prosecutor, can oversee the investigation into leaked footage from the Sde Teiman detention facility and an alleged cover-up. The 2-1 decision upheld an updated opinion by Justice Ministry legal adviser Yael Kotik, which found Aisman was no longer barred from the case. The court rejected a petition from bereaved families seeking to bar Aisman and give Justice Minister Yariv Levin more time to appoint an external supervisor, noting Levin had declined to appoint an eligible supervisor for months. The ruling allows Aisman and his team to review the police file and decide on further investigation or charges. The restriction on Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara remains in place. The court also unanimously rejected requests to order specific investigative steps, stating judges do not act as investigators.
