Church of England urges study of Palestinian Christian document accusing Israel of genocide

The Church of England's legislative body voted to encourage churches to engage with "Moment of Truth: Faith in a Time of Genocide" (Kairos II), a Palestinian Christian document accusing Israel of genocide and describing it as a "colonial enterprise built on racism." This decision came despite requests from Jewish organizations and Britain's Chief Rabbi, Sir Ephraim Mirvis, who called the document "deeply concerning" and said it "risks undermining decades of careful relationship-building" between Christians and Jews. The vote does not adopt the accusations as church doctrine but aims to foster understanding of Palestinian Christian experiences. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally, acknowledged both the pain of Palestinians and the concerns of Jewish leaders, reaffirming the church's opposition to antisemitism and commitment to safety for both Israelis and Palestinians.
