Church of England votes to hear Palestinian Christians on Israeli genocide in Gaza

The Church of England's General Synod voted to "hear" testimonies from Kairos Palestine, a group of Palestinian Christians, regarding Israel's actions in Gaza and the occupied territories. The document, "A Moment of Truth: Faith in a Time of Genocide," describes Israel as a "colonial enterprise" inflicting a "genocidal war on Gaza" and calls for non-violent resistance, including boycotts, divestment, and sanctions. While the Church clarified that "hearing" does not equate to endorsing every statement, the motion acknowledges the document as "heartfelt expressions of the lived experience of Palestinian Christians." Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally supported the motion, stating, "This document reflects the pain and trauma of the Palestinian people." The decision, seen as a significant step by Palestinian Christian pastor Munther Isaac, has drawn criticism from pro-Israel groups who label the document as containing "falsehoods and distortions."
