During his visit, Ratcliffe also discussed Iran, stating that the US would implement additional sanctions if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened for shipping. The Kremlin confirmed Ratcliffe met with Russian intelligence officials but not President Vladimir Putin, though Putin was briefed on the talks. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted it was too early to tell if these contacts could resolve the "deep crisis" in US-Russia relations. Additionally, Trump administration officials reportedly asked Ukraine to pause strikes against Moscow and other cities from Monday through Wednesday.
