Class action lawsuit against McGill University for alleged campus antisemitism allowed to proceed

The Superior Court of Quebec has allowed a B'nai Brith-backed class action lawsuit against McGill University to proceed. The lawsuit, filed by FFMP, represents all Jewish students enrolled at McGill from October 8, 2023, alleging the university failed to enforce policies against antisemitic and anti-Zionist conduct, depriving them of a safe environment. The court found the situation at McGill post-October 7 to be "exceptional and complex," warranting judicial review despite McGill's arguments that specific measures were not identified. Simon Wolle, B'nai Brith Canada's CEO, stated, "It is unacceptable that McGill has failed to prevent its campus from descending into a place where Jewish students encounter regular incidents of hate, antisemitism, and extremism."
