Colombia's president-elect says guerrillas plotting to assassinate him before inauguration

Colombia's president-elect, Abelardo de la Espriella, announced Monday that intelligence services uncovered an alleged assassination plot by leftist guerrilla groups ahead of his August 7 inauguration. His office stated that the National Liberation Army (ELN) and dissident FARC factions reportedly offered nearly $1 million for the assassination. Despite the threat, de la Espriella "will not suspend his agenda" and called for an investigation. A conservative who campaigned on a hard-line security platform, de la Espriella has also pledged to restore diplomatic ties with Israel, severed by outgoing President Gustavo Petro, and relocate Colombia's embassy to Jerusalem.
