Conspiracy theories blaming Jews for Europe's wildfires are spreading online, Cyberwell warns

Cyberwell has alerted X/Twitter about a surge in antisemitic conspiracy theories blaming Jews for recent wildfires across Europe, including in Norway, France, and Spain. The NGO, dedicated to combating online antisemitism, identified “nearly identical narratives” claiming Jewish people deliberately started the fires for political or financial gain. Content related to the Norway wildfires garnered over 2 million views on X, while posts about Spain's fires reached more than 69,100 users. Cyberwell noted this is a “recurring pattern of event-driven antisemitism,” where crises are exploited to spread hate. Tal-Or Cohen Montemayor, Cyberwell CEO, stated, “The same scapegoating stories, once popular in Nazi propaganda during the Third Reich, now trend on every major social media platform after a crisis.”
