Death threat directed at prominent Munich Holocaust survivor

Police in Munich are investigating a death threat against Charlotte Knobloch, a prominent Holocaust survivor and leader of the city's Jewish community. The threat, found scrawled on a park bench, referenced recent electoral gains by the right-wing AfD Party and included a Star of David. Knobloch, who has previously called for banning the AfD, canceled her attendance at a book launch following the incident.

Stephan Protschka, state chairman of the AfD's Bavaria chapter, condemned the threat, stating, "I condemn the death threat against Charlotte Knobloch unequivocally and without reservation."

Ludwig Spaenle, the Bavarian State Government Commissioner for Jewish Life and Against Antisemitism, stated the threat "crossed every line of decency." Knobloch is credited with leading a Jewish revival in Munich and survived the Holocaust by going into hiding as a child.
