Democratic Socialists of America members launch petition to oppose possible New York chapter split

Members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have launched a petition titled "For DSA Unity and Against Splits" to oppose a potential split of its New York City chapter (NYC-DSA) from the national organization. The dispute stems from a clash over the 2028 presidential endorsement process, specifically the National Political Committee's (NPC) 14-13 vote against an all-member poll on a potential endorsement. NYC-DSA co-chair Gustavo Gordillo accused the NPC of "taking away our members' right to vote," while the chapter's treasurer reportedly explored the financial implications of a split and told national leaders, "You need us more than we need you." The petition, which has garnered fewer than 200 signatures, including six NPC members, asserts, "It is unacceptable to threaten to split the organization because a vote didn't go your way."
