Democrats vote on aid to Israel not what GOP paints it to be

Last week, 113 Democrats either supported or abstained on a Republican-introduced amendment to eliminate U.S. security assistance for Israel. The Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) urged opposition to the amendment, which was ultimately defeated. While some interpret the vote as Democrats turning their back on Israel, the JDCA argues it reflects frustration with the Netanyahu government's policies, former President Trump's approach to Israel and Iran, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict's status quo. Many Democrats who voted for or present on the amendment still affirmed Israel's right to exist and its right to defend itself, noting that the amendment did not affect missile defense programs like Iron Dome.

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said, "The situation relative to the United States’ relationship with Israel, the Palestinian people and policy in the Middle East has to change because the current status quo is unsustainable."
