DocuText film ‘Safe Room’ tells moving account of how strangers transformed into family on Oct. 7

The documentary 'Safe Room,' directed by Haley Geffen, will be screened at the National Library of Israel's DocuText Festival on August 17. The film recounts the experience of strangers who became a makeshift family in Dr. Gedalya Fendel's safe room on Moshav Shuva during the October 7 Hamas attack. Geffen chose this "small story" to highlight a deeply human aspect of the events, aiming to foster empathy by focusing on relatable individuals. The film also explores the concept of a safe room, explaining its design for missile protection to an international audience. Geffen stated, "It wasn't simply about horror. It contained death, survival, hope, beauty, love, and ultimately life."
