The couple clarified they had a private wedding before the larger, pre-planned gathering with friends. Bettina Trump dismissed political implications, stating, “Friendship doesn’t require a political motive. Generosity doesn’t automatically come with an agenda. And sometimes a wedding gift is simply a wedding gift.” Kremlev's ties to Putin include receiving Russia’s Order of Friendship and accompanying Putin on a trip to China.
