Egypt unearths three previously unknown tombs from different eras at Bahariya Oasis cemetery

An Egyptian archaeological mission recently unearthed three previously unknown tombs and various artifacts at the Sheikh Soby site in the Bahariya Oasis. The tombs date to different periods, including the Late Period (664-332 BCE) and the Roman period. The Late Period tomb, a rock-cut structure, contained five mummies in limestone sarcophagi. Of the two Roman-era tombs, one was a staircase-style tomb that appeared unused, while the other was a shaft-style tomb containing ceramic coffin fragments and a limestone sarcophagus. Artifacts found include pottery, small bottles, offering tables, and terracotta votive statues. These discoveries, praised by Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy, offer new insights into the history and inhabitants of the Bahariya Oasis, with further excavations planned to uncover more.
