Eisenkot demands police launch probe into politically motivated assault of Yashar! party activist

Yashar Party chairman Gadi Eisenkot has urged Police Commissioner Insp.-Gen. Danny Levi to investigate the assault of 76-year-old party activist Ilan Mans. Mans, head of the party's Mevaseret Zion branch, was attacked last week near the Hemed Interchange on Highway 1 after attempting to remove a banner calling for the release of Yigal Amir, who murdered Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Footage showed several people assaulting Mans, who sustained bleeding in his brain and required neurological surgery, remaining hospitalized at Hadassah-University Medical Center. Eisenkot stated, "Violence of this kind, 84 days before election day, could be a grave indication of what awaits us during this period and cannot be tolerated," demanding a "comprehensive, thorough and rapid" investigation to send a clear message against political violence during the election campaign.
