Europe in flames: 326,000 evacuated as wildfires rage near Bordeaux and Madrid

Massive wildfires are raging across Europe, particularly in France and Spain, leading to the evacuation of over 326,000 residents and tourists. In France, a major blaze near Bordeaux, the country’s wine capital, has forced 250,000 evacuations and burned 42,000 hectares. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez described the situation as “extremely serious and unprecedented,” with the fire creating its own weather system. Meanwhile, in Spain, fires near Madrid and in the Valencia region have displaced 76,000 people, with the Avila blaze becoming Spain’s largest wildfire in history, burning 50,000 hectares. Authorities in both countries are battling the blazes amid warnings of worsening heat waves and unfavorable conditions, with Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska stating the next 48 hours would be “absolutely critical.”
