European commissioner discusses EU-Israel relationship, Gaza with Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar

European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar discussed EU-Israel relations, regional stability, and Gaza recovery efforts on Sunday. Suica emphasized the "urgent need to advance early recovery" in Gaza, noting that continued cooperation is crucial for delivering projects. The EU, along with partners, launched an initiative in July to fund Gaza's early recovery, focusing on restoring services, rehabilitating infrastructure, and strengthening governance. While the EU has criticized Israel's conduct in the Gaza war and West Bank settlements, its member states hold diverse views on Israel. Foreign Minister Sa'ar previously severed contact with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas over alleged remarks comparing Israel to apartheid-era South Africa.
