EXCLUSIVE: Long Island dad pleads guilty after police, in home check over son's alleged swastika drawing, find explosives

Francisco Sanles of Syosset, Long Island, pleaded guilty on July 28 to fourth-degree criminal facilitation after police found explosives in his home. Officers initially visited Sanles's home in April to investigate a Nazi swastika his teenage son was suspected of drawing in a school bathroom. Prosecutors stated there was no evidence Sanles intended to build a bomb, believing the chemicals were for model rockets. A spokeswoman for the Nassau County district attorney's office told JNS, "There wasn't any evidence that the son or the father were using the chemicals for nefarious activities." Sanles received a sentence of one year of conditional discharge, avoiding jail time or house arrest if he remains arrest-free for a year. The charges and sentencing for his minor son are sealed.
