Exiled Palestinian official walks back Jared Kushner ceasefire claim as Israeli strikes hit Gaza

Mohammad Dahlan, a former Fatah security chief, initially claimed on Facebook that US envoy Jared Kushner had secured an agreement for Israel to halt attacks on Gaza. However, he quickly revised his post, stating Kushner was "working with the Israeli side to stop the attacks on Gaza" and that the agreement's success depended on Israel's commitment. This came as Israeli strikes continued in Gaza, killing at least 15 people by Sunday evening, including Hamas commanders. Energy Minister Eli Cohen denied any Israeli agreement to end assaults, advocating for a full military takeover of Gaza.

A 15-point roadmap for disarmament, accepted by Hamas and other Palestinian factions, outlines a process for storing weapons under a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, not Israel. However, Israel has rejected key aspects, including the storage of weapons and the inclusion of Hamas-affiliated police in a new force. Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Netanyahu's office and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, have deemed the proposal unacceptable, citing security concerns and demanding complete demilitarization.
