Explosion at Bolivia military base kills at least 10, dozens injured

An explosion at a military barracks in Viacha, Bolivia, approximately 30 km from La Paz, resulted in at least 10 fatalities and dozens of injuries on Friday. The blast occurred around 2:30 p.m. local time in an area used for storing pyrotechnic material, specifically the defense ministry's fireworks stockpile. Viacha health director Rita Nebraska stated that 10 to 15 people were believed dead and 62 injured, with 14 transferred to La Paz hospitals, including a girl with third-degree burns. Police reported over 50 injuries and damage to numerous homes from shattered windows. Emergency responders were deployed, and firefighters warned of a remaining heat source, urging residents to maintain a 150-meter distance due to the risk of further explosions.
