Family of man who died in ICE detention in New Jersey alleges medical negligence in custody

The family of Edwin Lopez-Cornejo, an El Salvadoran man who died in ICE custody at Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, on Saturday, is alleging medical negligence and demanding an independent investigation. Lopez-Cornejo, who had underlying health conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes, and epilepsy, reportedly told his mother, Maria Cornejo, the day before his death that he had lost feeling in half his face and arm. His mother stated, "My son needed medical attention, and he did not receive it." His daughter also claimed he was denied medications.
