‘Fauda’ star reveals Season 5 had to be entirely rewritten after Oct. 7

The fifth season of the Israeli thriller series 'Fauda' was entirely rewritten following the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led invasion of southern Israel. Co-creator and star Lior Raz revealed this decision, stating, "We decided that we cannot stick with the original plan." The original premise for the season, conceived years prior by Raz, involved terrorists overrunning an Israeli community and taking hostages, an idea initially dismissed by co-creator Avi Issacharoff as impossible. After October 7, Issacharoff conceded, "You were right. And reality was much worse than your imagination."

• Filming plans for European segments in Marseille, France, were altered due to security concerns for the Israeli crew, with production subsequently taking place primarily in Israel and Budapest, Hungary.
• Raz also noted the global rise in antisemitism, calling it "surprising and sad" but also clarifying who Jewish communities can rely on.
• The 11-episode season, featuring actress Mélanie Laurent, will be available for streaming worldwide on Netflix starting Tuesday.
