Former NSC adviser explains why Iran could face internal upheaval within months – interview

Brig.-Gen. (res.) Prof. Jacob Nagel, former national security adviser, estimates that sustained US economic pressure could lead to an effective popular uprising in Iran within six to nine months. Speaking to 103fm, Nagel stated the US aims to "choke Iran's economy" by targeting its main revenue sources, despite acknowledging Iran continues to export some fuel. He believes prolonged economic strain, including "terrible" inflation, will push Iranians to protest, though he noted the regime's history of suppressing dissent. Nagel also explained that concerns over Iran's potential retaliation against US allies in the Gulf, such as Saudi Arabia, are why the US has avoided directly targeting Iran's energy sector, a view shared by advisors close to former President Trump.
