France to charge six in foiled synagogue attack

Six individuals are expected to be charged in France for an attempted terrorist attack against a synagogue in Sarcelles, a Paris suburb, on July 12. The French anti-terrorism prosecutor stated the plot was motivated by Islamist ideology. The suspects were apprehended after a suspicious vehicle, containing firearms including a “military-grade weapon,” was found outside the synagogue on July 11, leading to the evacuation of approximately 300 people. This incident occurs amid a reported rise in antisemitic incidents in France since the Israel-Hamas war began in October 2023.
