Francesca Albanese cries defamation to Elon Musk on X over UN Watch chief’s ‘Hamas spox’ label

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese accused UN Watch Executive Director Hillel Neuer of "outright defamation" on X after he labeled her "Hamas's de facto spokesperson" at the United Nations. Albanese's post, which tagged X owner Elon Musk, was interpreted by UN Watch as a call for platform intervention. Neuer responded by inviting Albanese to sue him, stating, "Truth is an absolute defense. I repeat: You are Hamas’s de facto spokesperson at the UN." He further challenged her to put her record before a court, referencing her previous claim of not knowing him. UN Watch subsequently published material it claims supports its characterization of Albanese, including statements it alleges minimize the October 7 attack and praise from Hamas figures. Albanese has consistently rejected accusations of antisemitism, defending her work as legitimate criticism of Israeli policy, while UN Watch has long called for her removal, citing alleged bias against Israel and antisemitic remarks.
