From Grand Slam glory to the next generation of Israeli tennis players

Israeli wheelchair tennis player Guy Sasson is set to compete at the US Open, aiming to achieve a historic calendar-year Grand Slam in doubles with partner Niels Vink. "Our goal is all four in the same year," Sasson stated, noting it has never been done in wheelchair tennis. Sasson, who was paralyzed in a 2015 snowboarding accident, also serves as an ambassador for Israel, dedicating victories to fallen soldiers and wearing a Star of David. Concurrently, the Israel Tennis Association and Wingate Institute launched a new National Tennis Academy on August 30 to develop future Israeli tennis stars. This academy, named after Major Yuval Ezra, will provide comprehensive training, fitness, and academic support for promising 13- and 14-year-olds, addressing the lack of professional infrastructure for junior players in Israel.
