A senior delegation from the Republic of Nauru, led by Vice President and Foreign Affairs Minister Lionel Rouwen Aingimea, visited Israel this week to officially open Nauru's embassy in Jerusalem. This event marks a significant milestone in the diplomatic relations between the two countries. Nauru, one of the world's smallest nations, has consistently supported Israel in international forums, including the UN General Assembly and the International Court of Justice, often despite external pressure. Nauru recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital in 2019, and the embassy opening actualizes this recognition, driven by President David Ranibok Adeang's leadership and a commitment to principles over financial incentives. As President Isaac Herzog stated, "friendship between nations is not measured by their size, but by their courage to stand together precisely when friendship comes at a price."
