Gaza death notices show some so-called health workers were operating for terror groups

Recent revelations from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) death notices indicate that at least 18 individuals previously identified as healthcare workers killed in Gaza were also active members of these terror groups. For example, Mohammed Akram al-Kafarna, mourned by the Palestinian Nurses and Midwives Syndicate and the International Council of Nurses as a leader in the nursing profession, was identified by Hamas as a fighter in its Nidal Nasser Battalion. Similarly, Ahmad Adel Abu al-Hilal, reported as a nurse, was named by PIJ as a team commander in its Rafah Brigade.

These disclosures challenge claims that the Israel Defense Forces targeted innocent civilians and raise questions about the accuracy of casualty figures provided by Hamas-run institutions. Israel has consistently accused Hamas of using medical facilities for military operations, presenting evidence such as photographs and interrogation materials. Despite these admissions, some international and Palestinian groups continue to list these individuals solely as healthcare workers, without updating their reports to reflect their dual roles.
