Gaza journalists operating under Hamas media controls were given platforms in Westminster

A report by Emma Schubart of the Henry Jackson Society (HJS) reveals that Gaza-based journalists, operating under what photojournalist Motaz Azaiza described as a "Hamas-controlled media environment," were given platforms in Westminster. Azaiza stated in a September 3 podcast that a Hamas-administered WhatsApp group, "Smart," included "every journalist working in Gaza" and coordinated media messaging, organizing campaigns against non-sanctioned reporting. He added that photographers in Gaza "become accustomed to lowering their cameras" when civilians criticized Hamas. Several journalists from this environment, including Al Jazeera's Gaza bureau chief Wael al-Dahdouh, Motaz Azaiza himself, and Abubaker Abed, were hosted by British parliamentarians or participated in events near Parliament. Schubart questioned, "Why were British politicians giving a parliamentary platform to journalism produced under Hamas control?"
