Germany blames Russia for explosive drone attack, shuts Russian consulate in Bonn

Germany has formally accused Russia of an explosive-drone attack at Leipzig airport on August 4, where an explosive drone was found near a Ukrainian cargo plane carrying military ammunition. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated, "Russia is responsible for the hybrid attack." In response, Germany announced the closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn and the Russian House cultural center in Berlin, effective September 18. Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul emphasized, "There is no overreaction on our part, but there is a response when we are attacked." This accusation follows a broader pattern of suspected Russian hybrid operations in Europe. Separately, German authorities are investigating suspected sabotage of power infrastructure in Brandenburg, though no link to Russia has been established.
