Golan pledges ‘fundamental change,’ vows to bar indicted politicians from government

Democrats Party leader Yair Golan announced plans to introduce legislation that would bar politicians with criminal indictments from serving as prime minister or government ministers. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday after the party finalized its Knesset slate for the October 27 elections, Golan stated, "In our government, there will be zero criminal defendants. Zero." He emphasized that this is a "fundamental principle of democracy" and argued that such a law would have prevented Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from serving over the past four years. The party's recently determined Knesset slate includes Naama Lazimi, Gilad Kariv, and Efrat Rayten in the top slots after Golan, and features a diverse group of activists, former officers, and public servants.
