Golda ice cream chain faces NIS 350 million lawsuit over falsely labeled sugar-free options

A class action lawsuit for NIS 350 million has been approved against the Golda ice cream chain by the Central District Court. The lawsuit alleges that several of Golda's "sugar-free" ice cream options actually contained 6.6 grams of sugar per 100 grams, exceeding the permitted amount for such a label by over thirteen times. The suit was initiated by Sol Yarkoni, who, after consuming what she believed was sugar-free ice cream, had it tested. Golda contended that the labels were not misleading, arguing that "sugar-free" in dairy products implies no added sugar, not the absence of natural lactose. However, the court ruled that the "sugar-free" label carries significant value and that consumers had reason to expect the product to be sugar-free, allowing the lawsuit to proceed to determine financial damages.
