Groundbreaking IAF promotion sends history-making female pilot to DC

Colonel G. has been promoted to brigadier general and appointed as the IDF air attaché in Washington, D.C., marking a historic first for the Israeli Air Force. She will be the first female aircrew member to achieve the rank of brigadier general. This promotion follows her previous groundbreaking role as the first woman to command an operational squadron in the IAF, specifically the 122nd intelligence and surveillance squadron. The appointments were decided during a meeting led by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and officially approved by Defense Minister Israel Katz. This development occurs as two more women recently completed pilot training, though the overall percentage of women in the demanding course remains low despite the Alice Miller case approximately 30 years ago.
