Hamas and Mediators Reach Broad Agreement on Road Map, Await Israel’s Response – ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English

Hamas and Gaza ceasefire mediators have reached a broad agreement on a proposed “road map” during recent meetings in Cairo, according to Hamas sources and a Palestinian faction official. The discussions, involving mediators from Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, and Nickolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace’s High Representative for Gaza, focused on a 15-provision plan. Negotiators achieved consensus on nearly all provisions, including compromise language for Article 5, concerning employees of the Hamas-run administration, and Article 8, covering weapons collection and storage. While 13 provisions are largely agreed upon, Articles 5 and 8 require further consultation with Hamas's leadership. Mediators are now awaiting Israel’s response and Mladenov’s official position. Hamas also emphasized that the proposed National Committee for the Administration of Gaza should govern the entire enclave, not just areas vacated by Israeli forces, warning against Israeli attempts to restrict its authority. Separately, Hamas official Basem Naim accused Mladenov of favoring Israel, disputing his claims of improved humanitarian aid and rejecting assertions that Hamas had dismissed the road map.
